• Chimney Services by Price Rite Roofing & Siding

Allow us to set the scene. Winter has settled; snow is piling up outside, and the bitter cold has brought your house down to freezing levels. During this time, many people would just turn on the furnace or heating system, but what if your home is a much more traditional form of warmth creation? We’re talking, of course, about a fireplace. There has always been something so calming and nurturing about a roaring fire from which to relax oneself. Throughout history, most homes were built around a fireplace with a big, strong chimney stretching up into the sky. While this had the built-in advantage of providing warmth in the winter, it had the distinct disadvantage of requiring regular cleaning and maintenance. Back in the olden days, a chimney sweep would climb down and clean out the build up of ash and creosote to keep the fireplace working pristinely.

    Chimney Cleaning

While modern society no longer has a need for a chimney sweep, the need to properly maintain your chimney has not changed. Unfortunately, no matter how recent your construction is, regular use of your fireplace requires regular cleaning. According to the National Fire Protection Association, you should get your chimney inspected annually to check for deposits, cracks and other issues that may need to be fixed.

    Chimney Cap Installation

At Price Rite Roofing & Siding, we can provide all of your chimney and fireplace related needs, including chimney inspection, cleaning, repair, and chimney cap installation. For those of you who are unaware, a chimney cap is a metal fitting that covers your chimney to prevent debris and animals from entering and sparks from exiting. If your home doesn’t have a chimney cap, it would be a great idea to have one installed if you use or plan on using your fireplace regularly.

    Chimney Inspection

If you haven’t used your fireplace in a while, it is imperative that you get it checked before you try to use it, as it could be filled with debris or flammable creosote that could catch fire. Additionally, animals like to make burrows in chimneys, so starting a fire could have the unintended effect of killing any unwanted residents, which could cause a host of problems.

As the weather cools down, and temperatures drop, the allure of a roaring fireplace can be very appealing. Let Price Rite Roofing & Siding take care of your chimney, so your chimney can help take care of you. Let’s keep the fire where it belongs.
